Deliberative Forms of Democracy and Intergenerational Sustainability Dilemma

Intergenerational sustainability (IS) has emerged as the most serious social problem reflecting climate change and accumulation of public debt in modern democratic societies, undermining potential interests concerns future generations. However, little is known about whether or not deliberative forms democracy with majority voting help support at maintaining IS by representing generations’ concerns. We institute dilemma game three decision-making models examine how they maintain laboratory experiments. In game, a sequence six generations prepared where each generation consisting subjects asked to choose either (sustainable option) maximizing their own generation’s payoff irreversibly costing subsequent (unsustainable anonymous systems: (1) (MV), (2) (DMV) (3) accountability (MVDA). MV DMV, vote for choices without deliberation, respectively. MVDA, are be possibly accountable during then vote. Our analysis shows that model only generally does address IS, while DMV MVDA treatments induce more much sustainable option than MV, Overall, results demonstrate deliberation along shall necessary resolving problems
